I know that I have a thing about starchy foods. Potatoes, breads, pastas, and rice all really lure me to the table. On this particular evening, the cilantro lime rice at the base of a chicken burrito bowl from Chippolte is perfect for me. Now, as much as I like starches it rivals my disdain for beans. From childhood I have not been able to develop a taste for them so, they do not make it to my bowl. Finished off with mild tomato salsa, corn salsa, and sour cream and my bowl is ready to devour.
A saturday matinee was the pastime of choice this weekend. Except we missed it and had to go to a later show. Bummer, full price movie ticket. To cope, Johnny Rockets Original Burger with a side salad. Not a bad diversion when waiting for the show.
This is, by far, my favorite thing on the McDonald’s menu. Golden, straight cut fries right of the grease and onto my tray. Crisp on the outside with a more mealy potato texture inside. Thanks to an article I read somewhere on getting great fresh fries anywhere, I simply order them without salt. They come out of the fryer still glistening from the oil. i absolutely hate “heat lamp” fries with their limp texture. Biting into one is so disappointing. But these, no regrets.
It’s that day. The one where I make the effort to bring my lunch trying to stay on track with my “spending plan” (Thanks Dave Ramsey). But I am hungry hours before so I ate it as a snack. Then lunch time rolls around and I just finished talking to a lady from customer service about the practice of not telling someone exactly when a trial ends is, well, wrong and how I need her to fix it (compromise reached). I need to break out of my office and I need a treat. But what about money and “the plan”?
Enter one of my all-time favorite gifts: The Gift Card. On days like today, the ones between bills paid and I’m paid, I reach into my stash for my guilt free pick-me up and I found my Starbucks gift card. Yea! I zipped down to see my local barista and ordered this lovely Black Shaken Iced Tea (southern style). Work may now resume.
In celebration of my aunt’s birthday, we gathered at the Tobacco Company restaurant in Richmond, Virginia. The menu was full to the brim with tasty sounding offerings but I finally landed on the Salmon. It was so good the only thing could have wished for was more.
